MOUNDSVILLE - James E. Gray Jr., 45, of Moundsville was charged Tuesday with nine counts of distribution and display to a minor of obscene matter for allegedly showing Halloween-themed pornography to a group of underage boys and providing them alcohol at his home.
Gray, along with Dessie Lee Gray, 39, of the same address, was also charged with nine counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and nine counts of providing alcohol to a minor.
Bond for James and Dessie Gray were posted at $25,000 and $10,000, respectively.
According to the criminal complaint against the Grays, an investigation by a West Virginia State Police trooper revealed they held a birthday party with nine boys ages 9-14 on Friday evening into Saturday morning in their home at 178 Clearview Heights. According to the report, James and Dessie Gray provided the boys Bud Light and other alcoholic beverages at about 8 p.m.
Sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight, James Gray was allegedly asked by one of the minors to purchase a pornographic film via pay per view.
The complaint states Gray was unable to purchase the video with the television remote control, so he called his cable provider to purchase the film. According to the report, victim statements revealed the film was Halloween themed. The complaint also states the victims reported Gray would change the channel whenever his wife walked by and then would change the program back to the pornographic video when she left.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for James Gray at 2 p.m. Nov. 1. A hearing for Dessie Gray had not been set Thursday afternoon.
