Cecil Comer

COMER, Cecil "Cec" Edward, 78, of Wheeling, WV, passed away on October 10, 2013, at Wheeling Hospital.

Cecil was born on August 2, 1935, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late Cecil Jr. and Adeline Bernhardt Comer.

He was a Marine veteran and retired lineman for Wheeling Power. He attended McKinley Vocational High School.

He is a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elm Grove.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in in death by his son, Eddie Comer; a grandson, Chad Comer; a granddaughter, Jamie Marie Hanning; a daughter-in-law, Susie Comer; and his sister, Jean M. Engler.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theresa Smith Comer; daughter, Peggy (John) Taylor of Wheeling; sons, Joseph Comer, Falling Waters, WV, Daniel (Tina) Comer of Martinsburg, WV, Cecil (Ashley) Comer of Charlotte, NC, David Comer of Goldsboro, NC; and Kathleen (Erik) Krupa of Shadyside, Ohio. His grandchildren, Scot (Jessi) Hanning of Columbus, Nicole (Kevin) Wine, of Falling Waters WV, Nicholas and Natalie Comer of Falling Waters. WV, Katie Comer of Martinsburg, WV, Matt and Alex Krupa, Shadyside, Olivia and Hallie Comer of Charlotte and Jessica Comer of Goldsboro, NC.

Also surviving are his four great-grandchildren, Adeline, Sam, Cecilia and James Hanning of Columbus, OH; two sisters- in-law; Audrey (Martin) Laffey of Wheeling, Debra (Gary) Schuetz of Tiltonsville, OH; and one brother-in-law, Frank Engler of Port Orange, FL.

Friends will be received Sunday, October 13, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger St., Elm Grove.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Rev. John Mulcahy as celebrant.

Rosary devotions will be recited on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Neighborhood Center, PO Box 6176, Wheeling, or to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
