George Travis

TRAVIS, George W., 89, of Ravenswood, WV, formerly of Moundsville, WV, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, WV.

He was born October 2, 1924 in Moundsville, the son of the late Paul and Georgie Butler Travis.

He was a retired employee of Kammer Power Plant; a member of Washington Lands United Methodist Church, where he was a lay minister and treasurer, a volunteer at the Salvation Army; a 4-H leader; and a professional cattle breeder.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Wardle Travis; two brothers, Thomas and Floyd Travis.

Survivors include his twin daughters, Marrilyn (Van) Adams of Ravenswood, and Carolyn Frizzell of Sarasota, FL; a sister, May Fitzwater of Moundsville; six grandchildren, Leslie Adams, Elizabeth Hiestand, Van Lee Adams, Catherine Hood, George Frizzell, and Kimberly Thomas; 10 great- grandchildren, Austin Frizzell, Tristan Morris, Samantha and Tyler Hiestand, Jacob Fisher, Isaac and Van Eli Adams, Autumn Paige and Abby Lynn Hood and David Hood, III.

Family will receive friends Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 400 Jefferson Avenue, Moundsville with Rev. Barry Taylor and Pastor Greg Blair officiating.

Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville.
