Festival of Lights Is A Holiday Tradition

November 10, 2013
The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

For many area residents, the Winter Festival of Lights has become as essential a part of the holiday season as Christmas trees and turkey. Every year, tens of thousands of people, including many from outside our immediate area, take in the show at Oglebay Park.

This year's festival is open and will continue through Jan. 5.

Each year, something new is added to the festival. Since it began in 1985, Oglebay has added a variety of other attractions, ranging from a fascinating model train exhibit to the holiday laser light show at the Good Zoo.

This year, visitors with iPhones and iPads can add to their enjoyment of the festival through special applications available free at the Apple App Store.

Among the most impressive aspects of the show, featuring 80 large lights displays, is that there is no admission charge (though donations are accepted).

Congratulations are in order, then, to the Wheeling Park Commission and all involved in staging the Winter Festival of Lights.
