On March 31, 2008, my precious 21 year old daughter, Heather, was brutally taken away from me.
I had to concentrate on how to breathe. The pain in my heart and chest was unbearable. Every second of every moment seemed to stand still. How was I to move forward through this tragedy?
I've reactivated the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Chapter in Wheeling, W.Va. MADD had a fundraiser this past Sunday at the Walmart in Triadelphia. Several of us weathered the frigid and snowy weather.
I'd like to say thank you to all those who showed their support by making a donation to MADD or by purchasing Sarris candy bars.
Thank you to the woman who purchased a hat for us to wear and to the gentleman that gave us hand warmers.
A special thank you to the person who opened his wallet so freely the day after the event and bought two cases of candy bars, just to turn around and give them away.
Thank you for the enthusiasm in spreading the word about the dangers of drinking and driving and the horrific tragedies that result from this.
You know who YOU are. You have made a significant difference in the lives of people.
As I swallow the lump in my throat and fight back the tears, I realize that I am blessed with "the gift of grief." I am truly humbled.
