McCLURE, Nelson James, 88, of Edmond, OK, a former West Virginia resident, passed away December 11, 2013 in Edmond.
He was born June 19, 1925, in Short Creek, WV, to Lewis William and Mary Elizabeth (Wilson) McClure.
Nelson began working at Windsor Power House Coal Co. in 1946 as a mechanic. In March of 1960, he left Windsor Power to attend the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, OH. He worked as a butcher until 1974 when he returned to Windsor Power, received his electrician certification and retired in 1987. Nelson married Marie Pauline Mooney on April 20, 1946 in Warwood, WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lewis McClure and Clarence (Buzz) McClure.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marie McClure of Edmond; two sons, Nelson E. McClure and wife Chris of West Liberty, WV, and Terry McClure and wife Joan of Short Creek, WV; one daughter, Wanda (Windy) French of Edmond, OK; two brothers, Lionel McClure and wife Helen of Warwood, WV, and Harold (Duck) McClure of Short Creek, WV; four grandchildren: Doug McClure of St. Clairsville, OH, Lisa McClure of Lore City, OH, Jason Potter of Edmond, OK, and Scott McClure of Windsor Heights, WV; and two nephews and three great-grandchildren.
Nelson enjoyed fishing, hunting, turkey calling, and visiting with friends and neighbors. He loved his little Yorkie, Stoli.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Matthews Funeral Home in Edmond. The Rev. Mark Allen will officiate. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.
Memorial contributions may be made to Peppers Ranch (P.O. Box 3814, Edmond, OK 73083), a ranch for abused and neglected foster children. Nelson loved to fish and watch the children play at the ranch.
