Driver Crashes Truck Into WATCH Building

December 24, 2013
By IAN HICKS - Staff Writer , The Intelligencer / Wheeling News-Register

Wheeling police suspect alcohol was involved when a man wrecked his vehicle into the Wheeling Area Training Center for the Handicapped Inc.'s 2600 Main St. building Monday night.

Officers took Ed Glessner Jr., 26, of Wheeling into custody on unrelated warrants after he allegedly crashed into the WATCH building around 10:30 p.m., then fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.

Additional charges for leaving the scene of an accident and DUI are pending, police said.

Police caught up with Glessner after he sought treatment at Ohio Valley Medical Center about 45 minutes later, reportedly bloody and suffering from injuries to his face, according to Wheeling police Sgt. Kevin Kettler.

Officers arrived at the hospital and served outstanding warrants for assault and domestic battery on Glessner, who matched a description officers received of the suspect. Glessner reportedly admitted to officers at the hospital he was driving the truck that crashed into the WATCH building.

Kettler said officers detected the odor of alcohol while interviewing Glessner.

The extent of damages to the WATCH Inc. building is unclear. The facility is managed by Russell Nesbitt Services and provides employment opportunities for disabled individuals in areas such as bulk mailing, assembly line work, document shredding and imaging, recycling and janitorial services.
