MARIETTA - Phil Bledsoe tipped in a missed shot with 0.8 seconds remaining to give Wheeling Park a 67-65 victory against Vincent Warren on Monday night in boys' basketball action.
Park, which fought back from an eight-point halftime deficit, got possession of the ball with 40 seconds remaining and held for the final shot. Sophomore Elijah Bell drove to the basket and attempted a short fadeaway jumper that fell off the iron to the leaping Bledsoe, who tipped it in. Vincent Warren, an Ohio Final Four team last season, then threw the ball away as time expired.
Ryan Reinbeau led the Patriots (4-1) with 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Bledsoe, a sophomore, had 14 points and 12 rebounds (seven in the final quarter and recorded his fourth straight double-double), Luke Saseen had 13 and T.J. Smith 12.
Evan French, who has signed with West Liberty, led Vincent Warren (5-3) with 24 points and Reece Patton had 20.
"We had great respect for them, returning three starters from an Ohio Final Four team," Park coach Mike Jebbia said. "Even when we got behind (38-30 at the half) we told the kids to just stay the course. We have a pretty young team but that was two sophomores who made that play at the end. It was a good team win. Everyone contributed."
Park plays Friday against Seton LaSalle out of Pittsburgh in the CRC Tournament at Wheeling Jesuit University.
