CONNORVILLE - Buckeye Local used the inside presence of Lauren Swiger to build an early lead and then utilized a 'team effort' in the second half to hold off Martins Ferry, 54-44, on the Panthers' home boards.

The 6-foot junior scored 15 of the Panthers' 21 first-half points as they led by six at halftime. She finished with a game-high 27, while adding 10 rebounds and a handful of blocked shots.

Becky Zeroski scorednine of her 13 in the fourth quarter, including seven early when the Purple Riders (2-8) made their first charge. She also hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to help the Panthers (2-8) seal the deal.

Swiger, who was 9 of 12 for the game, hit all four of her tries in the final moments, while Becky Zeroski converted her only two and Morgan Fedorko one.

Freshman Sydney Bridges paced the Purple Riders with 14 points, with nine of those coming after halftime.
