Robert Seidel

SEIDEL, Robert Louis Sr., 84, of Shadyside, Ohio, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Shadyside Care Center after a two-month rehabilitation stay.

Bob was born February 13, 1929 in Duquesne, PA, a son of the late Louis and Mary Ruby Seidel. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty Lou, (Elizabeth Louise Smith Seidel) whom he married on May 31, 1948.

Bob was a 1947 graduate of St. John Central Catholic High School, Bellaire. Bob was a retired furnace operator for the former Olin-Mathieson Corp (Conalco), where he worked for 25 years. He was a member of United Steel Workers of America Local 5760. He had previously worked at various other jobs, including 10 years at the former Marx Toy Factory.

He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Bellaire, where he volunteered for many years for the annual Lenten fish fry.

Surviving are two daughters; Janice M. Whorton and Mary Ellen Magyar of Shadyside, a son, Robert L. (Judy) Seidel Jr. of Moundsville, four grandchildren; Brian Whorton of Shadyside, Melissa Magyar of New York, Heather Magyar of Pittsburgh, PA and Justin (Kristi) Magyar of Dayton, OH, also, one great-grandson, Chase Magyar, who is soon to arrive, a brother, Fred Seidel of Prescott, AZ and a sister, Nancy (Tom) Green of Tucson, AZ.

Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be forever loved and sadly missed. Bob enjoyed many activities, but his favorite was going to the Four Seasons indoor-pool.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3900 Central Ave., Shadyside, Ohio.

Funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church, Bellaire, Ohio with Fr. Daniel Heusel as Celebrant.

Internment follows in Powhatan Cemetery, Powhatan Pt., Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
