Roger Laming

LAMING, Roger W., 89, of St. Clairsville, OH, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 16, 2014 with family at his side.

He was born February 17, 1924 in Cincinnati, OH the son of the late August and Clara Hirsch Laming.

Roger proudly served our country in World War II as a member of the Army Air Force. His time overseas was spent in the South Pacific Theatre.

After the war Roger utilized the G.I. Bill to attend college and graduated from The University of Cincinnati with a bachelors degree in Marketing.

He retired in 1976 from the Olin Corporation where he served as Vice-President in charge of marketing. In 1984 Roger began a second career in the helping profession and spent many years helping others as a Counselor at Northwood Health Systems in Wheeling, WV and at Crossroads Counseling Services in St. Clairsville, OH.

He was a 50 year Mason having been a member of the Montgomery Lodge #94 in Cincinnati.

In addition to his parents Roger was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Laming; and sister-in-law, Betty Laming of Cincinnati.

Roger is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lauren M. Laming; and children, Denise (Karl) Penz of Wheeling, WV and Rick (Susan) Richmond of Moundsville, WV; a son, Jeff (Louise) Laming of Chapel Hill NC; a son Jack (Beth) Laming of Columbus, OH; a daughter, Beth (Bob) Witherow of ID; grandchildren, Alexis Penz, Katie (Josh) Richmond, Ryan Richmond, Gretchen (Burton) Levine, Nate (Kristin) Laming, Kyle Laming, Kevin Laming, Becky (Sean) Witherow, and Casey (Laura) Witherow; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Roger's life will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Wheeling Park W. E. Stone Clubhouse, Wheeling, WV with Pastor Wesley Howsare of the Moundsville First Christian Church officiating.

Family will receive friends in the Club Room beginning at 1:30 p.m. and services will be held at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Roger's name to the Y.W.C.A. Wheeling at 1100 Chapline Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.
