Cabela's Distribution Center has been recognized as a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association for helping employees eat better and move more.
"Physical activity and employee wellness are important priorities," said Mindy Vargo, manager of health and safety at the distribution center. "We are honored and excited to be recognized by the American Heart Association. ... We're committed to providing the best workplace environment possible. This will benefit our employees' health and produce even more positive results for our worksite overall."
According to the the American Heart Association, platinum-level employers offer employees physical activity options in the workplace, increase healthy eating options at the worksite, promote a wellness culture in the workplace and demonstrate measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness.
Officials at the distribution center created indoor and outdoor walking trails and offer monthly challenges with rewards of wellness related prizes. Additionally, on-site cholesterol and glucose screenings are offered daily with customized health related AHA fact sheets provided to employees following the screening results.
As part of Cabela's 2013 company-wide wellness program, the distribution center offered a monthly wellness challenge and event, which in turn accumulated points for participants for an end of the year awards ceremony. Smoking cessation programs have also been presented on site.
