Justin Lang is accused of bringing a fence post to a fistfight on Wheeling Island.
Wheeling police charged Lang with malicious assault after multiple units responded to a call at 6:54 p.m. Wednesday regarding a fight in progress at 301 N. Front St.
A criminal complaint states that upon arrival, officers spoke to a man whose nose appeared to be broken and bleeding and had an injury to his right hand. The man told police that Lang had struck him in the face with a fence post and then fled the area.
A woman who identified Lang as her former boyfriend, said Lang had become upset because she is now dating a gas well worker. She said Lang had come to the residence to fight with the new boyfriend but he attacked the victim when the victim came out of the house. A witness said she saw Lang strike the victim with the fence post.
Wednesday's arrest is not Lang's first run-in with the law.
Six days prior to the fight, Lang was released on bond from the Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville where he had been held on three counts of domestic battery and petit larceny. Lang also posted bond Sept. 21 on charges of obstructing and battery on an officer.
Lang is back in jail under a $10,000 cash bond set Friday by Ohio County Magistrate Joe Roxby.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 24.
