Norman Winters

WINTERS, Norman C., 84, of West Liberty/ Wheeling, WV, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born August 4, 1929 in Wheeling, son of the late Cecil and Mildred Parsons Winters.

Mr. Winters was a member of the West Liberty Christian Church, and a member of the West Liberty University President's Circle. He was an avid sports fan, having especially enjoyed West Liberty University men's and women's basketball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie DeGarmo Winters in 2005.

Surviving are his daughter, Cheryl Ridgely of Bozeman, Montana; three sisters, Sara Jane Rinehart and her husband, James of West Liberty, Priscilla Wear of Lakeland, FL, and Karen Padgelek and her husband, Benjamin, of Tiltonsville, OH; four grandchildren, Jennifer Ridgely Torsleff and her husband, Chris of Breckenridge, CO, Robert L. Ridgely and his wife, Robin of Highlands Ranch, CO, Dana Ridgely Crumm and her husband, David of Wheeling, and Mark Ridgely of Wheeling; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Norman graduated from West Liberty High School in 1947, attended West Liberty State College, and served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was stationed in Wiesbaden Air Force Base in Germany. He worked in the offices of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Beech Bottom for the majority of his career, until he retired in his early 70s.

Friends will be received Friday, March 7, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral home, 166 Kruger St., Elm Grove, Wheeling (304-242-2311), where services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Dennis Arnold officiating. Interment in Prall Cemetery, West Liberty, WV.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions may be made to the West Liberty University Foundation designated for WLU men's and women's basketball programs, 208 University Drive, West Liberty, WV 26074.
