Linsly Swim Team Resets OVAC Medley Mark

Cadets fare well at event in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - The Linsly School swim team set an OVAC record recently as the men's 200-yard medley relay team posted a time of 1:39.22 - the first time an Ohio Valley school has broken the 1:40.00 mark in the event, according to swim coach William Brubaker.

The relay team, consisting of Drew Bastian (backstroke), Tre Taylor (breaststroke), Kevin Pietz (butterfly) and Liam McNeil (freestyle), placed ninth. Their finals time - 1:39.22 - broke the school and OVAC open record.

The swim came during the 114th Eastern Interscholastic Swimming Championships, played host to by Germantown Academy at LaSalle University in Philadephia.

The men's team finished 18th out of 44 schools. In the 200 freestyle, Reese Boyd posted a time of 1:56.70 to finish 47th. Bastian posted a 2:02.40 in the 200 medley to place 28th. In the 50 freestyle, McNeil posted a 22.67 for 24th place. And in the 100 butterfly, Pietz was 33rd with a 56.42.

Bastain, in the 100 breaststroke, posted a 59.84, good for 13th place.

Boyd finished 31st in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:05.75; Pietz finished 29th in the 100 backstroke with a 57.36; and in the 400 freestyle relay, McNeil, Taylor, Pietz and Boyd posted a time of 3:29.61, good for 21st.

The women's swim team finished in 19th place. The 200 medley relay of Samantha Schaal, Hayley Georgetti, Zoe Scarpone and Eve Scarpone placed 19th and were the first alternate with a time of 2:00.84.

In the 200 freestyle, Carleigh West (2:06.72) and Eve Scarpone (2:06.84) placed 35th and 36th, respectively.

In the 200 individual medley, Zoe Scarpone placed 13th with a time of 2:13.67 and Samantha Schaal was 37th with a time of 2:33.32.

Carol Gao's 50 freestyle time of 27.58 was good for 70th.

In the 100 butterfly, Zoe Scarpone placed 16th with a time of 1:00.01. Her qualifying time of 59.59 broke her Linsly School record which she set at the OVAC swim meet.

The girls' 200 freestyle relay of Gao, West, and the Scarpones were 13th with a time of 1:46.54.

West also placed 22nd in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:37.36. In the 100 breaststroke, Hayley Georgetti finished 31st with a 1:14.68.
