KEPNER, Joan (Jo) Brown Kepner, 84, of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach, near her winter home in Ormond Beach, Florida.
Jo was born January 29, 1930, in Lumberport, WV, daughter of the late Hugh Wayne Brown and Elizabeth Annie (Bowers) Brown.
She graduated from Lumberport High School and West Virginia University where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. There, her intelligence, beauty and quick wit captured the heart of John W. Kepner of Wheeling, WV. They married on July 24, 1954, and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July. She was an active member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Wheeling, WV, singing in the choir for many years.
Jo contributed her many talents and boundless enthusiasm to multiple local civic organizations including the Junior League of Wheeling, Inc., the Poinsettia Twig of OVMC, the Dorothy Greig Johnson Circle of The Kings Daughters, the Women's Giving Circle of the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley, the Junior Board of Altenheim Home, the Florence Crittenton Services, Figh Group and as a Life Member of the Wheeling Garden Center.
She was co-owner of Court and Green Sporting Apparel, and enjoyed many passions and interests, including travel to all parts of the world, golf, tennis, cooking, decorating, and playing bridge. Above all, she loved spending time at her cabin in Deep Creek Lake, MD and with her family.
In addition to her parents, Jo was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Ann Kepner in 1990, and her sister, Jane Brown Manley Ellis in 2008.
Surviving in addition to her husband are sons John D. Kepner and his wife, Claudia of Lake Norman, NC, James B. Kepner of Wheeling; her daughters; Jenny Mooney and her husband, Ron of Dublin, OH, Jane Maynard and her husband, Doug of Winston- Salem, NC; 12 grandchildren Krystal Schoepke (Michael), Adam Aubuchon (Jenna), Ashley Kepner, Jonathan Kepner, Kaity Yu (Early), Alex Kepner (Paige), Kylie Mooney, Julie Mooney, Alicia Kepner, Annie Maynard, Jenny Maynard, and Lexi Maynard; two great-grand sons Dylan Yu and Ryan Aubuchon, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling, WV (304-232-2732).
Friends will also be received on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, 1232 National Rd. Wheeling, WV. with the Reverend Judith A. Fisher officiating.
Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
