Ohio County Magistrate Harry Radcliffe on Sunday ordered Nigel Covington held without bond pending his extradition back to Louisiana to answer child sex charges.
U.S. Marshals and the Mountain State Fugitive Task Force arrested Covington at Cheddars Casual Cafe at The Highlands on the strength of a warrant alleging he is wanted for sexual battery of a nine-year-old girl.
Covington 31, of Jefferson Parish, La., told Ratcliffe he wanted a public defender attorney to represent him.

"I need to talk to somebody," he said during the arraignment. "I was picked up once in Belmont on this same charge."
A Jefferson Parish incident report states that on Sept. 9, 2012, a Department of Children and Family Service investigator called police after getting information regarding the sexual abuse of a nine-year-old. The assault is alleged to have happened in June 2012, in the victim's home where Covington had been living with the child's mentally challenged mother.
During a forensic interview April 30, the child disclosed that during an unknown period, Covington would lock the mother in a closet while he whipped the child on the buttocks with a white sandal as her mother yelled from the closet for her to call 911 for help. The report indicates that she later found bruises during a bath.
Covington is in the Northern Regional Jail pending an extradition hearing in Ohio County Circuit Court.
