They say the best ideas come in the shower.
Danielle Gaus would have to agree.
Gaus, owner/stylist at Studio Blue Hair Salon, considered 15 names for her business before settling on Studio Blue. The name for the hair salon, ironically enough, came to her in the shower. She had played with different versions of the idea, pairing "Studio" with other hues - none of which sounded as fitting as "Blue."
Studio Blue opened last November. For Gaus, who has 25 years in the industry, opening the salon was something she had dreamed of for a while. After spending 10 years working with another salon and some time in a transitional stage to start one of her own, the reality of taking steps to open the business at 963 National Road near Woodsdale occurred very quickly.
"We went from looking for a space one day to signing a lease five-to-seven days later, then opening four weeks after that," Gaus said, describing the experience as a bit overwhelming.
Despite the initial chaos, she said running the business has been wonderful.
Studio Blue's services include cut, color and Brazilian blowouts. Beyond hair, the salon also provides face waxing and manicures. Gaus said she plans to add acrylic nails to the menu sometime in the future.
Stylists Bre Gianangeli and Kesha Bosley also host new client Thursdays featuring special deals.
"We're a Paul Mitchell focus salon which means we only use and sell Paul Mitchell products," said Gaus, adding that she and Studio Blue's stylists are highly educated in their craft. Gaus, Gianangeli and Bosley have all had work featured in magazines.
Industry recognition aside, the salon tries to cater to every demographic. The Studio Blue team described the atmosphere as professional, fun and trendy.
The salon is already booking for prom and wedding seasons. Looking ahead, Gaus plans to expand services and employ an additional stylist by the end of this year. In three years' time, she hopes to grow the salon in a larger space.
