MONOLAKIS, Virginia Louise Mamakos, 88, of Wheeling passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Wheeling Hospital.
She was born February 3, 1926, daughter of the late Louis and Smaragda Hadjigeorgiou Mamakos.
She was the former co- owner and operator of Louis Hot Dog Stand. She was also a member of Daughters of Penelope, Ladies Philoptoches Society, Women's Club of Wheeling, and a member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church. She was a resident of Elmhurst where she enjoyed living immensely.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Monolakis; step-mother, Constance Mamakos; two brothers, George and Nick Mamakos; a nephew, Louis Axton; and a niece, Katherine Dandos Demis.
She is survived by her brother, Peter Mamakos (Athena); two sisters, Maryanne Bayes (George) and Frances Sokos (Gus); nieces and nephews, John Dandos (Judy), Helen Dandos, Marietta Actis (John), Crystal Gavid (William), Rick Axton, John Monolakis (Debbie), Nick Monolakis, Louis Mamakos (Lisa), Renee Caromano (Jonathan), Constance Mancini (James), Mary Ann McGinly, Louise Heusel (Matthew), Martha Busack (Pete), Joanne Triveri (John), Mathew Sokos (Jamie), Louis Sokos (Rita), and George Sokos (Denise); and a special friend, Rose Saines.
Friends will be received Sunday, April 13, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling (304-232-2732).
Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. with Father Stanly Voyiaziakis officiating, followed by Daughters of Penelope service. Funeral service will be celebrated Monday, April 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church, 2215 Chapline St., Wheeling, WV 26003, with Father Mojmir Zalcik and Father Stanly Voyiaziakis officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
