BRIDGEPORT - With hues to match the season, Carol Saffield, sales manager at Wilson Furniture, Bridgeport, is excited about a new offering this spring in home furnishings.

It's called recycled leather, but it looks and feels like the real thing. The Flexsteel brand's version is called Nuvo Leather, while La Z Boy's is called Renew.

"The whole trend is going to recycled leather - it is absolutely gorgeous," Saffield said. "They have really great colors and it's something people can clean easily and it has good wearability."

In addition to traditional black and browns, more spring-like colors are available such as aqua, green, white and creams. There are also distressed patterns. Saffield said the coverings can be used on pieces that are stationary, sectionals, recliners and those with power.

"They are stain resistant and fade resistant," she said, adding the fabrics also are scratch resistant.

While the pieces may cost more than others, the recycled leather still is significantly less than real leather.

"People don't want a throw-away sofa. They are buying better sofas and this is the biggest trend out there," she said.

In St. Clairsville, Value City Furniture is getting a variety of new patio sets and pieces for its customers this year, said store manager Jim Dodd.

"We have a lot new stuff at our location - new colors to florals. We have a full lineup of patio furniture, gazebos, dinettes and living room sets," Dodd said.

Dodd said the patio furniture is weather-resistant wicker with aluminum frames.

"We just started getting it in and we've been getting a lot of feedback," Dodd said. "We have solar umbrellas ... the lights go down the posts on top of it."

Dodd said the Value City company decided to start selling patio furniture after receiving requests for it from sales people across the country.

"There's so much more coming," Dodd said.

In addition to patio furniture, new leather furniture is coming in by Vie Boutique. And Kroehler is offering new floral patterned couches.

There are also new bedroom sets by Pulaski.
