WHEELING - When it comes to storage, why not think outside the box?
Lowe's in Wheeling provides a range of options for indoor and outdoor storage solutions. Whether customers choose to purchase pre-made or customizable products, employees encourage shoppers to plan ahead.
"Measure. Please measure," said Amber Taylor, manager of the paint department. Having worked in a variety of departments throughout her eight years at Lowe's, she knows the advice is especially important for those seeking indoor closet solutions.

With spring cleaning at its peak, Taylor said now is an opportune time "to clean out those closets... Bring in the new and throw out the old!"
In addition to kits that already come with all parts and accessories, Lowe's sells individual shelving, brackets, protectors and closet-building components. Customers can even customize their shelving while shopping; Lowe's provides in-store shelf cutting.
It all comes back to what the customer wants.
"Have an idea of what you're expecting out of your closet," Taylor said, suggesting that shoppers consider space issues such as shelving depth and storage additions including bins or sliding drawers.
Customizable solutions also are available for the garage. With different hangers for bikes, brooms and other items often stored in garages, Lowe's extends organization into all parts of the home.
For those wanting outdoor storage, sheds are available in wood, vinyl and metal.
"People like metal sheds because they're economical," said Chad Hutkay, a live-nursery specialist at Lowe's.
In terms of durability and customization, however, the wood designs are the best option.
"We do offer installation on the wood, whereas we don't on the (vinyl and metal sheds)," said Jonathan Larsen, outside lawn and garden department manager. One thing that is consistent among all three options is shed size variety.
Like Taylor, Hutkay reminded shoppers to consider what they plan to store before making a purchase. With sheds, factors such as item size and weight play a key role in determining the best selection.
As Hutkay described an increase in calls requesting information, people are showing interest in the annual spring organization trend.
