SHELEK, Rosetta Marie Auvil, 83, of Wheeling passed away peacefully Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Bishop Hodges Continuous Care Center, Wheeling.
She was born September 21, 1930, in Indianapolis, IN, daughter of the late Emwood "Zeik" and Alta Oberfield Auvil (Neitzel).
She worked for Galdo DiCarlo at DiCarlo's pizza on 14th Street while attending Wheeling High School. She later moved to New Orleans, LA, where she married Caligero "Carlo" Montalbano. They owned and operated a night club at 225 Bourbon Street called The Blue Angel.
She moved back to Wheeling in the early 1960s and worked at Sylvania Electric. In the 1970s and 1980s she owned a half dozen or so bars, an ice cream parlor and arcade to boot. In the mid 1990s, she and her daughter moved to Powell, TN, a suburb of Knoxville, where she worked at Children's Hospital, until her retirement. She returned to Wheeling in 2009, where she resided at Petroplus Towers.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Montalbano of New Orleans, LA and Christopher Shelek, of Wheeling, who was born in 1966 and one daughter, Deena Shelek of Knoxville, TN, whom she adopted in 1977; a daughter-in-law, Ellen Davis Shelek; one sister, Mary (Junior) DeFilippis; half-sister and half-brother, Zelda and Zeik Auvil; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no services at her request. She is to be cremated and placed alongside her mother, Alta Neitzel in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling.
