Police said the suspect, who brandished a firearm during the crime, was seen driving a maroon, early 1990s Dodge Spirit. The car was recovered the next day in an Elm Grove parking lot.

Martins Ferry Police Chief John McFarland the car was stolen from Fourth Street between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The owner had left his keys in the vehicle because of a problem with the ignition.

Bethlehem police, State Police, sheriff's deputies, FBI agents and Martins Ferry police are investigating the robbery. It was the third bank robbery to take place in Ohio County in a little more than two weeks. On March 25, a man flashed a blade as he robbed the United Bank on 12th Street. A second robbery took place April 4 at the Chase Bank on Market Street. Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger said he believes the robberies are connected in some way.
