McMECHEN - An oil and gas industry worker allegedly stabbed a McMechen resident Monday night outside a local bar.

McMechen Police Chief David Robinson said Ashley Gimnich Baker of De Ridder, La., used a pocket knife to stab Terry Davis at about 10 p.m. in Goodfellas Bar & Grill on Marshall Street in McMechen during a scuffle between the two men.

Robinson said Baker allegedly stabbed the victim several times inside the bar and continued the fight on the sidewalk outside the building.

Davis was transported to Ohio Valley Medical Center after the stabbing. This morning, a hospital spokeswoman said Davis had been in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Officers from the McMechen, Benwood and Glen Dale Police departments and the Marshall County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.

Baker reportedly is living in McMechen while he works for a local pipeline company. Baker is being held at West Virginia Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville pending arraignment.
