CAMERON - Cameron Elementary School students were sent home early this morning due to a power outage caused by a raccoon entering an electric substation.
Carmen Prati-Miller, American Electric Power spokeswoman, said the raccoon came into contact with electrical equipment inside the substation, causing extensive damage. She anticipated the repairs would be made by noon at the latest. In addition to the school, 1,445 people in the Cameron area also lost power.
"Some fuses were damaged and they are replacing them" Prati-Miller said.
