Samuel R. Dickson, Sr., 91, resident of Wheeling, WV, died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the Ohio Valley Medical Center.
He was born September 8, 1922, in Short Creek, WV, the son of the late Sylva Lynn and Bertha Wilhelm Dickson.
He was a retired pipe fitter with Weirton Steel, a WW II Army veteran, 68th 1st Quartermaster. He served from 1943 until 1946 as a cook. He received the American Theater, EMAE Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, and Good Conduct and Victory Medal. He was a member of Short Creek United Methodist Church, A&A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, 32nd Degree, Liberty Lodge 26, and Wheeling Post 1.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae Frye Dickson; sisters, Bertha Ellen Curtis, Ada Dolores White, Elsie Rachel Ashbrook, and Beatrice Eileen Zeidler Bane; brother, Sylva Homer "Bud" Dickson.
Surviving are his children, Carolyn J. Anderson, Samuel R. Dickson, Jr. (Geraldin), Cynthia K. Paree, and fiance Ryan Obermeirer, Lori R. Donzella (Guy); grandchildren, Debra Craney (Trevor), Penelope Dickson, Billy Anderson, Nicole Williams, Shelby Rutt (Cory), Jeshua Burwell, Domenico Donzella, Annabella Paree, Katarina Donzella, Hannah Dickson, Hanzel Mae Dickson, Gesam and Gerin Dickson, Sam Dickson, III; four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received Sunday, May 11, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Avenue, Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-277-2722) where services will be held Monday, May 12, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Glen Baker officiating.
Interment in Short Creek Cemetery.
