Dorothy Ellen Pearson, 94, formerly of Benwood, left this earth to join her loved ones on May 8, 2014 at Liza's Place, Wheeling, WV, accompanied by loved ones.
"Dot" resided at the home of her longtime friend, Dottie Henry for several years. They enjoyed eating out, shopping and just talking the hours away. She loved to watch the Steelers and spoil Dottie's dog "Pepper." She never owned a dog or cat, only a pet chicken, who would eat bread and milk together on their porch step, until one Saturday her dad grabbed the wrong chicken out of the dark chicken coop and 'chicken' was their Sunday dinner. Dorothy never ate chicken for years!
Dorothy was a professional clown, along with her husband "Big Red", she was known as "Dot the Balloon Lady"and shared her talent for balloon making to many other clowns. She was also a member of the Shriners, the Eastern Star, Hillbilly Caravan and Daughters of the Nile.
Dorothy had retired from Bobby Brooks, bought their professional sewing machine and at home made over 70 outfits to be given to needy children for many years. She would sew all summer long to have dresses for Christmas pickup for the Salvation Army to distribute.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Pearson in 2002 and her daughter, Nancy Lou Osborne in 2012.
Surviving are two nieces, Debra Murphy of Canton, OH, Donna Burgess of the Cumberland Point Care Center and a nephew, Paul White of Parkersburg, WV and her dear friend Dottie Henry of Powhatan Point, OH.
Friends will be received on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Benwood-McMechen Chapel, 214 Marshall St., McMechen, WV.
