After winning a 71-percent majority of votes Tuesday, Stacey "Hukill" Wise of Follansbee apperantly will replace Norma Tarr on the Brooke County Commission.
Tarr has held the position for the past 12 years.
As no Republican filed to run in the primary, Wise will be unopposed November's general election.
A total of 1,578 voters nominated Wise as Dem-ocrat candidate for commissioner, and she doesn't take those numbers for granted.
"I'm completely overwhelmed ... so thankful and blessed," said Wise, co-owner and treasurer of Wise Enterprise LLC that operates the Meadowbrook RV Park and house rentals.
Additionally, she was employed for 21 years by Colonial American Development as an office-site manager for the Rockdale Village Senior Complex.
While expecting there to be a learning curve, Wise cites her 30 years' experience in management and budgeting, as well as a strong work ethic, as important qualifying factors for the position of commissioner. She looks forward to working with other Brooke County commissioners to build a better future for the county.
Specifically, Wise hopes to explore new ways to bring in revenue and better manage the budget.
"The county has a voice, and I'm willing to listen to it," Wise said.
She referenced campaigning door-to-door over the past weeks as an enlightening experience that allowed her to really speak with Brooke County residents.
