WHEELING - While participating in nearly every Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic Run since its 1977 inception, Vietnam veteran John Looney had a good 35th race Saturday.
"This keeps me in shape. I need to exercise, so this is just a good way of doing it," said Looney, who serves as team leader at the Wheeling Vet Center.
Friday evening, Looney participated in the Torch Run along National Road through Wheeling.

During his years running the race, Looney said his times have fluctuated. He said the relatively cool temperatures Saturday would serve to his advantage.
"The toughest part of the race is going up Wheeling Hill. It just comes at a bad time in the course," he said.
As for a goal in the Saturday race, Looney said he just wanted to make the most of the opportunity, rather than focusing on trying to finish in a specific time.
