Middle school students recently returned to Ohio County with an armful of trophies recognizing their musical talent.
Music departments from Triadelphia and Warwood middle schools participated in this year's Music in the Parks competition in Ohio. The competition itself was held at Green Springs Elementary School and McPherson Middle School, while an awards ceremony took place at Cedar Point.
Participating in four events, 138 students from Triadelphia Middle School took home superior ratings for choir and excellent ratings for string orchestra, jazz band and wind ensemble.

Triadelphia Middle eighth graders Josie Laing and Allison Holmstrand performed in all four events. While they described the competition as challenging, they truly enjoy the experience of being involved in music and working to improve their performances.
"It's a department with a lot of energy," Jingle said about Triadelphia's music department, adding students cheered when they won in different categories.
Similarly to Triadelphia Middle School, Warwood Middle School students have attended Music In the Parks events in the past. This year, students returned with superior ratings for choir, excellent ratings for strings orchestra, and good ratings for jazz band.
"They had a fantastic time ... I'm very proud of them," said Warwood Middle music teacher Kate O'Connell, who appreciates that participants get to receive feedback from professional judges.
