Moundsville resident Steve Allen Baker was arrested for allegedly choking and hitting his girlfriend in their home at 14 Division St.
Baker, 30, was charged with domestic battery second offense and bond was set at $5,000.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Baker, the Moundsville Police Department received a call from the alleged victim's mother around 5 a.m. May 23 reporting Baker had hit her daughter.
The alleged victim told police Baker woke her up in the middle of the night at their home and attacked her after seeing a text message from a male friend on her cellphone.
The report states Baker began yelling at the victim and choked her while calling her names.
The woman said she hit Baker to get him off of her, but he was able to grab her and hit her several more time before telling her to get out of the house.
Police reportedly observed scratches and cuts on the victim's chest, elbow and leg and saw both sides of her neck and her chest were red.
Police later found Baker at the couple's residence and arrested him without incident. The complaint states Baker was arrested and convicted of domestic battery and served six months in prison in 2012.
A preliminary hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. July 15.
