William Jude Buch, 75, of Wheeling, WV, died Friday, July 11, 2014, at Heritage Valley Health Systems Hospital in Sewickly, PA.
He was born January 8, 1939, in Wheeling, WV to the late Harry F. Buch and Marcella Sonnefeld Buch, and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
After graduation from The University of Notre Dame, Bill began his career as a realtor with WesBanco and later with William Buch Realty Inc. as an independent broker and appraiser. He continued to work full time until he suffered a stroke and was proud of his 54 years in the business. He was a member of the National Association of Realtors; the WV Realtors Association; and the Wheeling Board of Realtors where he was past president.
Among his greatest loves and fondest memories was the time he spent at Notre Dame. Not only was he following in his brother Harry's footsteps, but he was part of creating a strong family tradition that survives to this day. His love for the University was evident in much of what he took pleasure in during his life - his cat named Irish, and his ND golf bag with a leprechaun head cover, the blue and gold plaid slacks that were a favorite ... and from the '80s ... but were never allowed to be thrown away.
A perfect day for Bill was a game of golf in the morning, a Notre Dame football game in the afternoon, and a steak and baked potato dinner cooked by him, because nobody could do it better.
Cooking was a pleasure for Bill. He loved to entertain and show off his culinary skills and would always prepare a "favorite" for you, if you requested it. His mandatory Sunday dinners with family extended to friends and neighbors and any stray visitors looking for a good meal. As none of his recipes were ever written down, his "stuffed" steak, twice-baked potatoes, and peanut butter cookies will be much missed.
For 25 years, Bill coached the St. Michael's football team. It was never a "job" or a burden. The interaction he had with the young men he coached brought a smile to his face, when he would walk down the street or pass a table in restaurant and hear someone call out, "Hey, coach!"
Bill was a past Board member of the Wheeling Country Club.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Robert W. Buch; a daughter, Deborah J. Jones; his brother, Harry L. Buch, and his dear friend and mentor, Leonard Landers.
Surviving are his loving wife of 29 years, Lynn Holmes Buch; two daughters, Melinda A. Buch-Carpentieri and her husband, Vinnie, of Hilton Head Island, SC; and Lisa M. Buch of Wheeling; six grandchildren; Brent Buch; Megan and Brittany Cooey, and Brandon, Brooklyn and Jade Jones; three great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him GAGA, Kameron and Gavyn Cooey, and Isabella Letavish.
