The Ohio County Board of Education voted Monday to renew the contract of Ritchie Elementary School guidance counselor Kristyn Fetcko.
Fetcko remains on suspension after she was arrested on charges pertaining to the selling of oxycodone pills out of her home earlier this year. She remains on suspension pending the outcome of her case, and she won't be at the school when the semester begins next week. The board voted Feb. 10 to suspend Fetcko without pay indefinitely following her indictment.
Superintendent Dianna Vargo said the move was necessary as Fetcko is still an employee of the district as her legal proceedings continue.
In other business Monday, the board recognized the school district's prevention resource officers for the awards they received at their state PRO conference on July 27 in Morgantown.
Sgt. John Schultz, officer at Wheeling Middle School, was named PRO of the year and received the distinguished service award and community service award. Sgt. Tom Howard, Triadelphia Middle School, was honored with a community service award; Sgt. Bill Criswell, was recognized for service to Wheeling Park High School; and Sgt. Don Miller, Bridge Street Middle School, was awarded an above and beyond service award.
