Robert C. Coleman, 84, of Moundsville, WV, died Sunday, August 17, 2014 in Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.
He was born December 24, 1929 in Wheeling, WV, the son of the late Theodore and Mildred Loew Coleman.
Mr. Coleman was a retired employee of Carson Petroleum and a member of the McMechen- Benwood United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the United Methodist Men, having served as past Secretary and past State Secretary.
He was a former member of the McMechen Lions Club and the owner of Quaker State Gas Station in McMechen during the 1960's. He served with the United States Naval Reserve for 21 years and was a member of the Moundsville Rifle and Pistol Club. He played bass guitar with his family's group, called the "Cousins."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy P. Walton Coleman; two sons-in- law, Rev. John Mencer and Angus MacFadyen.
Surviving are his three daughters, Beth Mencer and Martha MacFadyen, both of Moundsville, and Nancy Perry (Richard) of McMechen, WV; a sister, Margaret Ann Myers (Richard) of Newton Falls, OH; five grandchildren; 13 great - grandchildren; one great- great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews; his beloved pet, Ernie Charles Coleman.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 214 Marshall St., McMechen, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014 with Rev. April Forkey officiating.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
