Chadwrick Gearald Novel of Proctor was arrested Thursday for allegedly hurting his children while trying to prevent them from leaving and threatening to get a gun and kill his family.
Novel allegedly became violent when his ex-wife Desiree Burge came to his house to take their children after she received a call that Novel might have had a seizure and had been sleeping for several hours.
Novel, 43, was charged with domestic battery and two counts of child abuse resulting in injury. Bond was set at $7,000.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Novel, the Marshall County Sheriff's Department received a call at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday of an active domestic fight at 3049 Gatts Ridge Road. When deputies arrived a Novel's residence, Novel stated Burge had taken his children from him.
Burge allegedly reported to the sheriff's department with her children at the same time to file charges against Novel. Burge stated she received a phone call from one of her children that night that Novel may have had a seizure and had been sleeping for a few hours. She then had a woman drive her to Novel's house to get the children and check on Novel.
Novel reportedly woke up when Burge and the other woman arrived and became upset they were taking the children. Novel then allegedly became physically violent with Burge, who had markings on her arm and around her neck. Novel also reportedly pushed one of the children into a doorframe to prevent the child from leaving.
The complaint states Novel then tried to remove one of the children from the car, resulting in a marking on the child. He also tried to take another child from a car seat by the child's leg. After Burge and the other woman removed the car seat, Novel then allegedly threatened to get a gun and kill everyone.
