On Saturday evening, August 30, 2014, Vivian Iona Horn Grooms, a beautiful mother and a beloved wife, passed away at Weirton Medical Center surrounded by her daughter, her son-in law, and two nieces.
She was a member of the West Liberty Christian Church. Her Christian faith, her family and her pets were the center of her life.
Vivian was born in Rush Run, OH, on April 20, 1927. She was the second of five children born to Thornton Allen Horn and Edith Lucille Lynn Horn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by two children, William Russell Grooms and Cheryl Lynn Grooms Flaherty; by two brothers, Henry Wesley Horn and James Marvin Horn; by a sister-in-law, Betty Jane Horn; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Lewis Grooms and James Anthony Sperlazza; and by a nephew, Gary Lee Grooms.
"Bibby," as she was called by family members, is survived by her husband, William Pontius Grooms; a daughter, Joyce Ann McGeehan; her sister Madlyn Joyce Sperlazza; a brother, Thornton Allen Horn, Jr.; three grandchildren, Ashley Lynn Flaherty, Matthew Allen Grooms, and Jennifer West; by sisters-in-law Lydia Grooms and Jackie Horn; and four nieces and eight nephews.
A private Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at Chambers Funeral Home in Wellsburg, WV. The Reverend Dennis Arnold of West Liberty Christian Church will officiate. He will be accompanied by the Reverend Joseph F. Cuomo of the Christian Assembly of Follansbee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Brooke County Animal Shelter.
