Wilbur Chance (Bill) Neer passed away on August 31, 2014, at Wheeling Hospital after a brief illness.
Bill was born in Minneapolis, MN on January 15, 1932. He was the son of Wilbur C. Neer Sr. and Margaret H. Neer.
After graduating from Wheeling High School and The College of Steuben-ville, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He spent his career with IBM as a systems engineer, and later became one of the few industry specialists in the United States before his retirement.
Bill was one of the original members of the Lawrencefield Parish Chapel. He was very devoted to his church, and served several terms on the Vestry, most as Senior Warden, and was a lay reader and chalice bearer for many years.
He was preceded in death by both parents; and daughter, Sally Ann Neer.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline Honecker Neer, and their children, daughter Leslie N. Pike (Phillip) of Charleston, WV, and son David A. Neer Sr. (Lisa) of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by grandsons Alex Pike (Myranda), Christopher Neer, David A. Neer Jr., Cody Starkey (Jen); granddaughters, Kerri Street (Bryon) and Kala Bonar; and seven great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his only sister, Peggy Dupke (Bill) of Conway, SC; sister-in-law, Jeannie Reed of Wheeling; and several nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed sailing and golfing and was an avid football fan.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014, from 10-11 a.m., memorial services at 11 a.m., and luncheon immediately following services, all to be held at Lawrencefield Parish Chapel, Table Rock Lane, Wheeling, WV with the Rev. Cynthia B. Walter officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrencefield Parish Chapel.
