John Cusack: I Obsess Over How I Relate to Women

John Cusack finally joins the ranks of action heroes in 2012. In the film, he tries to save his family as the world comes to an end, with the help of some mind-boggling special effects and director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow). Some serious prognosticators insist that 2012 might really be our doomsday based on the ancient Mayan calendar. Parade.com's Jeanne Wolf found out why Cusack isn't among them. Ask Marilyn
Let Them Drink Soda

James Santiago of Albuquerque, New Mexico, writes: Marilyn: I disagree with your reply about wasting water. (September 20, 2009) Retaining water in the man-made distribution system leaves less water for nature's distribution system. As far as the amount of available water is concerned, nothing is changed by retaining water in any particular place in the man-made system. Retaining the maximum amount of water in the man-made system leave less for those in other locations who must depend on nature's distribution system, which I believe is more in sync with the overall needs of the planet than bureaucrats who are interested only in their own little corner of the world. Many other planetary processes also depend on Nature's proper water distribution. So let nature do it. Of course, it would be difficult for our civilization to move the location of a city when natural water sources dry up. Related Content from Parade.comLet Them Drink Soda

Two-thirds of American adults are overweight or obese, and men and women weigh an average of 18 pounds more now than they did in the late 1970s. Since the region in our brain that regulates hunger-the hypothalamus-hasn't evolved in the past 30 years, is there anything we can do about controlling our appetites? The answer is a resounding yes. 1. Rate Your Hunger Before you automatically pop something into your mouth, rate your hunger on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being ravenous and 5 being stuffed. If you're at a 4 or a 5, your "hunger" is not physical, and you should examine what is compelling you to eat. Often the culprit is boredom or stress. The best remedy is to engage in a pleasurable activity unrelated to eating, like talking to a friend, taking a walk, or reading. 2. Stop Mindless Eating We're often so distracted by outs
