Mya McEndree, Barnesville

Barnesville’s Mya McEndree had a historical junior campaign. So historical, that her name has been imprinted in the Ohio High School Athletic Association record books.

McEndree accumulated a 100 percent serve percentage on 341 of 341 attempts.

Along with that, she served up plenty of awards including first team All-OVAC and first team District12.

“Her last serve of last season hit the net and rolled over. I never spoke to her about it and I didn’t mention it to her. I just let it go,” Barnesville volleyball coach Nikki McEndree, who is Mya’s mother, said. “Usually at home, coaching her, I don’t try to talk volleyball at home. We try to separate what goes on at the gym and at home. I know it’s difficult for her to have her mom as a coach, but she has adjusted very well to it.”

Nikki McEndree said it has been a pleasure getting to coach her daughter.

Last season, Mya had eye-popping numbers as she accounted for 375 assists, 216 digs, 197 points, 22 aces, 22 blocks and 13 kills and helped the Shamrocks roll to a 13-6 record. Barnesville also made it to the OVAC semifinals.

“It’s been a very good experience. She always knew what I expected, she’s been a good leader on the court,” Nikki McEndree said.

“She had a very good season last year. She’s our setter and she led us in assists last year. I think she was second on the team in digs.

With eight seniors on the team this year, Mya McEndree and company are expecting great things.

“I know she always thinks of the team first. She and her teammates are all expecting to have a good year,” Nikki McEndree said. “I have eight seniors on the team this year, and I believe six of them are lettermen. We return a lot this year and I know she is expecting that if everyone does their job, we should have a good year.”
