Robert’s Cup on the line Tuesday
WHEELING – The inaugural edition of the Roberts Cup will be take place at 8:30 Tuesday night at WesBanco Arena.
The battle will feature 24 of the top Wheeling-area adult hockey league players, many who competed for local high schools and West Virginia University. A number of Wheeling Amateur Hockey Association travel league players also will be putting on the skates.
The game is intended to be fun, but officials will permit a certain amount of “bumping.”
Serving as team captains will be Courtney Ferguson and Logan Tharp.
Other players include: Corey Grubler, Ryan Herron, Dave Johnson, Zack Herron, Mike Hausberger, Ryan Fiano, Ryan McCullough, Shilling Rodocker, Brian Syrylo, Dave Kovalski, Bobby Herron, Adam Mull, Kris Smith, Rico Simonetti, Corey Palmer, Kenny Phillips, James Fahay, Luke Schmitt, Eric Cunningham, Sean Regan, Eric Palmer, Dean Miner, Billy Higgins, John Klug and Tom Pie.
The name of each player from the winning team will be etched on the Roberts Cup, which will be housed along with a photo in the Wheeling Park trophy case.
The “Roberts Cup” is named for Tim Roberts, president of WAHA, and an instrumental figure in brokering a deal to keep the Nailers in Wheeling.
The game is being sponsored by McCoy Wealth Management, Miner Racing Team and the Wheeling Nailers.
