Steelers Basketball Team Set To Play May 10 at Whg. Park

WHEELING – The Pittsburgh Steelers Footballers Basketball Team, made up of current and former professional football players, is traveling to Wheeling to take on the Ohio County Relay for Life Team coached by Wheeling Park High School boys’ basketball coach Michael Jebbia and assistant coach Dave Koehler. The Ohio County Relay for Life Team has a 2-1 record against the Steelers, having lost last year’s game that provided plenty of thrills from Antonio Brown and Charlie Batch for all of those in attendance.

This year promises to showcase the talent of the professional football players as well as local athletes.

The event is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 10 at the Basketball Palace on the Hill. Tickets are $7 each and are available for presale purchase at Wheeling Park High School, Mountain Ricer Physical Therapy and Spic ‘N Span Cleaners on National Road.

That’s not all though, because this event is essentially a triple header with the doors opening at 4:45 p.m. The Wheeling Park seniors will play members of the school’s faculty at 5:15 p.m., while future Park basketball stars will have an exhibition game at p.m.

This figures to be an evening of entertainment for your entire family or a great group outing. Halftime provides the perfect opportunity to get autographs from your favorite Steelers players, while a 50-50 raffle will be held, along with raffles for Steelers baskets, a Steelers blanket, an autographed Steelers football, and other great gift baskets. In addition, there will be a bake sale and other Steelers items for sale.

The game is being organized by three Teams from Ohio County: “A Full House,” “Cheaper by the Dozen,” and the American Cancer Youth Board from Wheeling Park High School, with assistance provided by Wheeling Park School and the Ohio County Board of Education.

All proceeds benefit Ohio County Relay for Life, which is the signature fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. The game will be dedicated to the memory of Randy Stephens, who was a senior at Wheeling Park High School and an active member of the American Cancer Society Youth Board. Both the Steelers and the relay teams will wear wrist bands to honor Randy, who was the Honorary Referee in 2010 and an active participant at last year’s game.

Please join us to help the American Cancer Society realize its vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
