Defenseman Grassi Returns to Nailers

WHEELING – The Wheeling Nailers announced Wednesday that they have received defenseman Matt Grassi from the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Grassi, 24, is currently playing in his first full season of professional hockey, after a brief three-game stint with Hamilton at the end of the 2012-13 campaign. Thus far this season, Grassi has appeared in 24 games with the Nailers, recording one goal, four assists, five points, 21 penalty minutes, and a plus-7 rating.

The Burnaby, BC, native dished out an assist in his second game with Wheeling on Oct. 19 in Cincinnati, before netting his first pro goal Nov. 20 in Reading. Grassi has also been exceptional in the defensive end, as his plus/minus has been either plus or even in 21 of 24 games.

Grassi is expected to join the Nailers on Friday in Greenville, where they will battle the Road Warriors in the first of three straight road games against the South Division. Wheeling’s next home game takes place at 3 p.m. on Jan. 26 against the Cincinnati Cyclones.
