Ferry Defeats Bridgeport
MARTINS FERRY – Bridgeport and Martins Ferry met for the first time since each had disappointing losses in the OVAC tournament last week.
Martins Ferry pitcher Shaye DeLeonardis allowed two hits, struck out eight Bulldogs and issued one walk in the 1-0 Purple Rider victory.
Krissy Hotlosz led off the third inning with the first and only hit of the outing for the Purple Riders (12-4). After two outfield errors, she crossed the plate for the only score of the contest.
The Bulldogs (12-5) had an opportunity in the fifth inning when Justine Schell reached on an error and Julie Nowakowski doubled to center. The throw to home was on the mark as Martins Ferry denied the run.
Bridgeport threatened in the seventh when Schell took the first pitch to left field to put the tying run aboard. Dakota Dobrynski got down a slow rolling bunt that third baseman Morgan Stalder fielded and threw to second in an attempt to get the lead runner.
The Purple Riders fourth error of the contest set the table for Bridgeport with two on and one out. DeLeonardis notched her second strike out of the inning and got the last batter to ground out to second to preserve the victory.
