Jesuit Standout Siefert Inks Deal With Windsor Express

WINSOR, Ont. — One basketball chapter ended and a new professional one was signed to begin. Wheeling Jesuit’s Eric Siefert inked a deal with the Windsor Express of the National Basketball League of Canada for the 2016-17 season.

Following a recent team tryout, the former Cardinals point guard received the contract offer and signed it Thursday afternoon from the 2014 and 2015 NBL Champion Express.

“I am proud of Eric. He has worked so hard on his game and improved so much in his time here at Wheeling Jesuit,” WJU men’s basketball coach Danny Sancomb said. “I am glad he is a pro now. He will continue to work and do great things.”

Siefert will travel north to Windsor, Ontario, which is 10 minutes across the Detroit River from Michigan, for the start of the Express’ 10-day Training Camp on Dec. 12.

The three-time All-Mountain East Conference First Team performer joins a successful Express franchise. Windsor won the NBL Championship in the 2014 and 2015 seasons, while it lost in the Central Conference Finals a year ago.

Siefert completed a stellar WJU career last spring where he totaled 1,632 points, 565 rebounds and 478 assists from 2012-16. Along with his All-MEC First Team honors, he earned D2CCAA All-American status.

Eric topped the WJU scorers with a 14.9-point average and 135 assists. He was also second in 3-pointers made (51), while he pulled down 4.9 rebounds per night.
