Linsly Swimming Closes Season With Successful Easterns

Pietz sets Cadets, OVAC open record in butterfly

The Linsly swimming team ended its season this weekend at the 2017 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships hosted at the Kunkel Aquatic Center on the campus of Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa.

The girls’ placed 18th, scoring 86 points, while the boys came in 22nd with 56 points.

The girls’ 200 medley relay of Carleigh West, Sydney West, Sian Longley, and Carol Gao placed 15th with a time of 1:54.93

The boys’ Medley Relay of Kaleb Nuckles-Polen, Alejandro Rodriguez, Kevin Pietz and Michael Schwarz placed 20th with a time of 1:45.42

In the boys’ 100 Butterfly,0 Kevin Pietz qualified for the championship final with a Linsly record and OVAC open record of 51:67, and came back at night finishing 8th and breaking the records again swimming a 51:66.

In the girls’ 200 freestyle relay, the team of Carleigh West, Carol Gao, Sian Longley and Sydney West finished 14th with a time of 1:44.72.

The boys’ 200 freestyle relay saw the team of Michael Schwarz, Kaleb Nuckles-Polen, Alejandro Rodriguez and Kevin Pietz swam to a 21st place finish with a time of 1:35.22

On Saturday, Sydney West placed 16th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.79.

Kevin continued setting records as his 12th place qualifying time of :53.38, both Linsly School and OVAC Open records and in the evening finals finished 11th resetting the records with a :53.25.

Sian Longley finished 12th in the girls’ 100 breaststroke with a 1:09.11, but in the morning qualified with a Linsly school record time of 1:08.61.

Linsly’s girls’ 400 Freestyle Relay ended the scoring for the Cadets Saturday evening, finishing 20th as the team of Eve Ridenhour, Brynleigh Buff, Alexandria Behm and Carol Gao placed 20th with a time of 4:03.00.

Notes

∫ Pietz’s times would have been tops in the W.Va. state meet.

∫ The girls’ 200 medley relay and Longley and West’s 100 breaststroke times were both the fastest in the state this year.

∫ Penn Charter junior Reece Whitley wowed the swimmers with a :52.35 qualifying time in the morning prelims 100 breaststroke, which was a Prep School National Record, but came back in finals and swam a :51.84 to reset the national record. One Friday night he missed the national record in the 200 I.M. by .01 seconds with a time of 1:44.91.
