Robinson Becomes First WJU Football Assistant

BRANDON ROBINSON

WHEELING — The first piece of the inaugural Cardinals gridiron coaching staff is now in place. Brandon Robinson became the first Wheeling Jesuit assistant football coach announced today.

Robinson joins WJU coach Zac Bruney to help bring football student-athletes to the Wheeling campus as the assistant coach/recruiting coordinator.

“I want to thank Wheeling Jesuit University and Coach Bruney for an opportunity to be on the ground floor to build the WJU football program,” Robinson said. “It’s an honor to be part of a University with such a rich academic and athletic tradition. I’m looking forward to working hard to help build our football program and be part of the WJU community.”

With his first football staff member on board, Bruney added, “I’m really excited to bring Brandon on as our first hire to this staff. He’s a great young coach with an impeccable work ethic, a burning desire to develop young men, and a hunger to win. He has a great background and experience as a Division II player & coach. Also, spent time with a top 10 program in NAIA for the last year and a half. Brandon has taught and coached at the high school level, as well as he has been a winner every stop of his career.”

Robinson comes to WJU from the NAIA’s Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. At Lindsey Wilson, he served as the wide receivers coach and oversaw both the wide receivers academic progress and team video coordinator.

Under his tutelage, the Blue Raider offense finished fourth in the NAIA in total passing offense and sixth in scoring offense per game.

“Brandon is a man of high character and will recruit young men to our program that fit our mission as a University and a football team,” Bruney said. “He’ll jump right in and continue the building process from the ground level.”

Prior to that stop, Robinson was part of the Ohio Dominican University football staff where Bruney was as the tight ends coach. On the Panthers staff, Brandon covered eastern and southeastern Ohio as part of his recruiting area.

Before his two previous college coaching stints, Robinson was the wide receivers coach and junior varsity head coach for Eaton High School in Eaton, Ohio.

Robinson holds a bachelor of science degree in integrated social studies education-secondary and a master’s degree in education leadership both from Ohio Dominican.

Robinson officially joined the Cardinals football staff on Aug. 14. WJU will play a 2018 exhibition schedule, before it begins its inaugural Mountain East Conference campaign in the fall of 2019.
