CADIZ — The Brooke-Harrison Central boys soccer turned ugly Tuesday night at Wagner Field.

Evan Stine netted a hat trick and an assist in leading Harrison Central to a 4-1 victory over Brooke in a game marred by a fight.

It occured with 19:53 left in the game with Harrison Central holding a 3-1 advantage. The altercation started on the field before it was broken up near the Harrison Central bench.

ì”One of our players lost his head”,î Harrison Central (5-4) coach Derek Gramling said. “He lost his temper. He wasn’t disciplined. He got a red card. Heís going to be out for awhile. You just can’t do those kinds of things.”î

As for the game, Harrison Central outscored Brooke 3-0 in the second half en route to the victory.

ìThey outhustled us,î Brooke (5-5-1) coach Joe Pepe said. ìThey beat us to the ball. They packed it in.î

While the Bruins attacked, the Huskies settled for counter attacks.

“That is how I set the team up for the game,”î Gramling said. “We wanted to counterattack. We knew they are a very good team and that they were going to have the ball a lot. We were able to score a goal about 20 minutes in, and we dominated the midfield when we had to.”î

Stine tallied all three of his goals in the second half after assisting on the first goal of the game.

“We played well,”î Stine said.

“We kept our heads when things got crazy. We played with a high amount of intensity. I’m happy about that. We played well with us using a new formation.”î

Jeff Fogle scored the first goal of the game for the Huskies with 16:11 remaining in the first half. Fogle scored off of a cross from Stine.

“I took my time,”î Stine said. “I put it up and over the defense, and he put it in with his head.î”

Konner Govey scored the lone goal for the Bruins. Govey’s score was unassisted, and it came with 9:03 left before halftime.

“They packed it in, and they played the long ball,”î Pepe said. “We did not counter. We had opportiunities, but we could not capitalize.”

The scored remained deadlocked at 1-1 more than 11 minutes into the second half when the Huskies gained the advantage thanks to two goals by Stine in a span of 38 seconds.

Stine scored his first goal of the half with 28:47 left on the clock, and he collected his second with 28:09 still showing.

Stine completed his hat trick when he found the back of the net with 42.8 seconds left to play. Dylan Redish, Dylan Holmes and Jacob Arnold all delivered an assist to Stine.

“That is what we wanted to do, and it paid off,”î Gramling said. “We didn’t just want to use the long ball. We wanted to counter and use our speed up top. We didn’t just want to boot the ball up in the air over their defense. We wanted to counterattack.î”

Job Positano made 23 saves in goal for Harrison Central. Matthew Reed made six saves in goal for Brooke.

The game was a big one for both teams as they attempt to qualify for the annual OVAC tournament.

Harrison Central entered in fourth place in the Class 4A standings, while Brooke was fourth in Class 5A.

ìFor the OVACs it was a big win,î Gramling said.

Both teams are scheduled to play at 6 p.m. Thursday at home. Brooke will face Parkersburg South, while Harrison Central is slated to play Beaver Local.

ìI love playing here,î Stine said. ìIt is so different. The ball glides on the turf. There are no holes. It is big difference playing here as compared playing out there last year. I’m so happy to be playing here.î
