Wheeling Jesuit, West Liberty Headed To Virginia for Atlantic Regional

PETERSBURG, Va. — Virginia State was the top seed in the final Division II Men’s Atlantic Regional standings and will play host to the tournament, beginning Saturday.

Wheeling Jesuit, coming off its first Mountain East Conference championship, was selected as the No. 3 seed.

Coach Danny Sancomb’s squad will take on No. 6 seed West Chester (21-6) in the first round.

West Liberty, which two weeks ago was the top seed in the rankings, took a tumble following its loss to Charleston in the MEC conference semis.

Coach Ben Howlett’s Hilltoppers (26-3) were selected as the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 Shippensburg (23-7) in the first round.

Host Virginia State (24-4) was will face a familiar foe in the first round. It was upset in its conference tournament by No. 8 Virginia Union (18-14).

No. 2 East Stroudsburg (24-5) and No. 7 Gannon (22-9) round out the field.

Wheeling Jesuit and West Liberty are the lone MEC schools.
