ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Not even dropping temperatures, gusty winds and a steady drizzle could slow down host St. Clairsville Friday evening in the annual Dave Porterfield Invitational.

The annual meet attracted an all-time best 20 schools, but after 17 events, it was the host Red Devils who reigned supreme.

Coach Tony Ciroli’s boys’ squad tallied 113 points, which was 42 better than runner-up Weir, while the girls’ team rang up 94 points to outdistance Indian Creek by 18 for the title.

The St. Clairsville boys were sparked to the title by three victories.

Two of those wins came from junior jumper Justin Heatherington. The all-Ohioan in the high jump claimed his specialty with a 6-2 clearance. He then went to the long jump runway and proceeded to mark the sand at 20-ft-11 3/4 to edge his teammate, Christian Oberdick by three quarters of an inch.

St. C.’s 4×1 team, which placed in the state meet last spring, but has a couple of new faces, turned in a 45.16 en route to victory over Cambridge. The team was made up of Declan Dombrowski, Oberdick, Aaron Jordan and Heatherington.

Weir High sophomore Sebastian Spencer pulled the sprint double. He claimed the 100 (11.16) and 200 (22.94) to fuel the Red Riders to a runner-up finish

The Red Riders claimed the 4×2 in 1:36.16. The quartet was comprised of Jake McCoy, Ethan Cummings, Jaylon Bridges and Quincy Dameron. They edged the Red Devils by six hundredths of a second.

Weir senior Keyshawn Faulks claimed the 300 meter hurdles in 42-flat.

Steubenville’s first win of the meet came when senior Jonathan Blackmon edged Oberdick in the 110 high hurdles with a 15.27.

Big Red’s second victory of the meet came in the discus circle. Senior Marlon Lawrence prevailed by nine inches over Steubenville Central’s Vince Oliver with his mark of 140-ft-10.

Bellaire junior Cole LaRoche — an all-Ohioan a season ago — continued his splended early season in the shot put. He launched the iron ball to a mark of 56-3, which gave him the BHS school record and also meet standard.

On the girls side, the Red Devils only victory of the meet came in the 400 relay. The team of Alyssa Baire, Emily Baire, Paige McGlothlin and Kadence Shaw passed the baton to a time of 52.93.

Indian Creek’s strength in middle distance helped carry the Redskins to the runner-up trophy.

Sophomore Sloane Lewis got the individual winning going when she captured the 1600 meter run in 5:37.12.

Senior Kelsey Lewis raced past the 800 field to a meet-record time fo 2:25.43 en route to the title.

The Redskins’ 4×8 team, which finished third in the state last June, smashed a meet record by nearly 27 seconds. En route to being 44 seconds faster than their nearest competitor, the Redskins’ team of Leia Hunt, Aiamyia Dudley, Sloane Lewis and Kelsey Lewis blazed a 10:04.05.

Outside of the middle distance, senior Spencer Neville was solid in winning the 300 low hurdles, skimming eight timbers in 51.08.

Creek closed the meet in style, winning the 4×4. The reigning Division II state champs in the event ran a 4:17.25. The 4×8 team, except Neville entered for Hunt, was responsible.

Wheeling Central, which finished third in the team standings, was sparked by the work of junior speedster Kenadee Wayt. She captured the 100 meter dash in 12.74 and later added the 200 meter title in 26.67.

The Maroon Knights added a victory in the 4×2 when the team of Nicole Billie, Marisa Horan, Ireland Wayt and Wayt turned in a meet-record time of 1:49.09 to win by nearly five full seconds.

Weir’s Caroline Fodor edged Creek’s Dudley by thousandths of a second to win the 400 with a meet-record time of 61.10.

Bellaire’s lone victory came in the field. Junior Brittany Falcone continued her impressive season in the shot put by claiming the Alyssa Robinson Award, which is presented annually to the champion in the iron-ball event to honor St. C.’s two-time state champion and a former all Big Ten performer at Penn State.

Falcone took home the special award on the strength of a mark of 34-ft-8 3/4.

Buckeye Local’s lone winner was senior standout Skylar Langford. She captured the long jump crown with an impressive mark of 16-7.

Buckeye Trail’s Emily Paden was the victor in the pole vault, soaring over 11-feet for the crown.

Martins Ferry’s Olivia Walton claimed the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:56.27.

In the field, Purple Rider sophomore Richella Spielvogel claimed the discus title, twirling the platter to a mark of 103-5.
