CLEVELAND — Mike Clevinger struck out 10 and allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings, and the Cleveland Indians defeated the Chicago White Sox 6-3 on Tuesday night.

Clevinger (6-2) beat Chicago for the third time this season and was in command after giving up a first-inning run. The right-hander retired 13 straight between the second and sixth while allowing five hits.

Clevinger, who struck out a career-high 11 against the White Sox last week, was pulled after two walks in the eighth. He has held Chicago to three earned runs in 21 1/3 innings over three starts.

Francisco Lindor’s two-run single was the key hit in the second when Cleveland scored four times. Yonder Alonso, Michael Brantley and Edwin Encarnacion also drove in runs for the Indians.

Yoan Moncada had a two-run double with two outs in the ninth off Zach McAllister. Second baseman Erik Gonzalez booted Yolmer Sanchez’s ground ball putting two runners on. Cody Allen retired Jose Abreu on fly ball for his 15th save in 16 chances.

Cleveland improved to 16-4 in its past 20 home games against Chicago.

Carlos Rodon (0-2) allowed four runs in 6 1/3 innings. The left-hander made his third start of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery in August.

The White Sox lost their sixth straight and dropped a season-high 24 games under .500. Chicago is 11-23 against the AL Central.

Abreu’s single put Chicago ahead three batters into the game, but the lead lasted one inning. Alonso tied the game with an RBI single in the second and Cleveland went ahead on Rodon’s wild pitch.

Lindor singled into right-center with runners on second and third for a 4-1 lead. Brantley and Encarnacion drove in runs in the seventh.

Clevinger retired Adam Engel and Moncada with a runner on second to end the second inning. He didn’t allow another baserunner until Daniel Palka’s two-out single in the sixth.

Abreu had a home run overturned in the third. His drive down the left field line was called fair by third base umpire Lance Barksdale, The ruling was reversed after a crew chief review that lasted 44 seconds. Abreu then struck out.

Moncada led off the first with a double and scored when Abreu hit a sharp ground ball through the right side.

Brandon Guyer and Rajai Davis stole bases for the Indians, who have stolen 23 consecutive bases since May 23.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Eduardo Escobar had two go-ahead hits, including an RBI single that launched a four-run eighth inning for the Minnesota Twins in a victory over the Boston Red Sox.

Robby Scott (0-1), just recalled from Triple-A to make his season debut, relieved Chris Sale to start the eighth and walked the first two batters. Joe Kelly entered, and Escobar’s one-out line drive bounced in front of Jackie Bradley Jr. and skipped past the center fielder for an error as two runs scored. Robbie Grossman broke the game open with a two-run triple.

The late surge masked a classic pitching duel between Sale and Jose Berrios, the six-time All-Star against the budding ace. Sale retired the first 14 batters he faced before Ehire Adrianza’s soft roller to Rafael Devers at third base went for an infield single.

Rays 2, Astros 1

HOUSTON (AP) — C.J. Cron homered early and Wilson Ramos hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a win to snap a 12-game winning streak by the Houston Astros.

Blake Snell (9-4) allowed just three hits and one run in seven innings, but had to pitch around a career-high seven walks for his fifth straight win. Sergio Romo pitched for the third straight game, taking over with one out in the ninth and allowing one hit for his third save a night after blowing the save in Houston’s 5-4 win.

Matt Duffy doubled to start the eighth and advanced to third on a groundout by Jake Bauers. The Rays took a 2-1 lead when the single by Ramos sailed just over the head of a leaping Yuli Gurriel and into left field to allow Duffy to score.

Cron snapped a career-long 0 for 23 slump with a solo homer with one out in the second inning to give Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead. It was the first hit since June 12 for Cron, who struck out 18 times during his hitless

Rangers 4, Royals 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Cole Hamels allowed four hits over seven innings, Delino DeShields doubled home two runs and the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals 4-1 on Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to a season-high four games.

The Royals have lost eight straight, matching their season high, and 14 of 15. They own a major league-worst 10-28 home record and their 22-51 overall mark is the worst in franchise history after 73 games.

Hamels (4-6) picked up his first win since May 22. The run off him in the fifth was unearned and he has yet to allow an earned run in 20 innings over three starts at Kauffman Stadium.

Keone Kela pitched a spotless ninth for his 17th save in as many chances.
